Commissioner for Human Rights: Mauritania Places the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights at the Heart of its Policies and Strategies

The Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, Cheikh Ahmedou Ould Ahmed Salem Ould Sidi, presented on Tuesday in Geneva before the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights the second periodic report of Mauritania on the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
In his speech, the High Commissioner reviewed the most important achievements made by Mauritania in the legislative, institutional and administrative fields, and the most important government strategies taken to implement the provisions of the Covenant, in line with our country’s international obligations in the field of human rights.
He added that our country places the promotion and protection of human rights at the heart of its policies and strategies, noting that despite the difficulties and challenges that sometimes hinder the enjoyment of certain rights, especially economic and social, the government continues its tireless efforts to overcome them, in implementation of the political program of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, which makes the achievement of social justice and the promotion of vulnerable groups a top priority.
