Spanish Prime Minister and European Commission President Arrive in Nouakchott

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived Thursday morning in Nouakchott for a one-day visit to Mauritania.

The President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, was at the helm of the reception of the Spanish Prime Minister and the President of the European Commission at the flight at Nouakchott International Airport Oumtounsy, surrounded by Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal Messoud, Minister in charge of the Office of the President of the Republic, Chief of Special Staff of the President of the Republic, Governor of Nouakchott West, Vice-President of the Nouakchott Region, Spanish Ambassador to Mauritania and Head of the Delegation of the European Union.

The European delegation was also received by the Minister-General of the Presidency of the Republic, the two Ministers Counsellors of the Presidency of the Republic, a number of members of the Government and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Mauritania.

The President shook hands with the delegation accompanying the Spanish Prime Minister and the President of the European Commission, before meeting them privately at the presidential suite at the airport.

The Mauritanian and European parties are seeking to establish a framework for bilateral co-operation in various fields, especially the fight against migration.
