Prime Minister Before the National Assembly: Building a Strong Modern State at the Service of the Citizen is a Major Priority for the President of the Republic

Nouakchott

During a public session held by the National Assembly under the chairmanship of Speaker Mohamed Bamba Meghet, Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal Messoud presented the outcome of the implementation of the government’s work for 2023 and its prospects for 2024.

The Prime Minister stressed that the government has continued during the past year to work to reduce the negative effects of the global and regional economic situation on citizens, especially the most vulnerable among them, and to reform various sectors of the economy, in order to strengthen its resilience and direct it towards creating job opportunities and reducing injustice.

He pointed out that the national economy, despite international and regional economic shocks, recorded significant results with an estimated growth of 4.8%, low inflation, improved budget performance and debt control.

He added that building a strong and modern state in the service of the citizen is a major priority for His Excellency the President of the Republic.

In fact, the Government has remained active and vigilant on several fronts, enabling it to manage the following problems optimally:

(a) Global rise in the prices of basic foodstuffs and fuel;

(b) Ensuring the continuous supply of markets;

(c) Citizens’ access to basic social services;

(d) Insurance of citizens and residents and their property.

Redoubled efforts have also been made to ensure greater equality and social justice, accelerate reforms and implement structural projects to support growth.

Despite the difficult international situation, the government has worked with determination to complete the implementation of the political program on the basis of which His Excellency the President of the Republic was elected.

As a reminder, this program is based on an ambitious economic and social vision represented in the following main axes:

1 – A strong and modern state at the service of the citizen.

  1. A resilient, resilient and emerging economy;

3 – Valuation of human capital to achieve development.

4 – A society that is proud of its diversity and reconciled with itself.

This important and diverse outcome, which covered all vital areas of the population, was achieved under the direct supervision of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, in a very difficult international and regional context.

Indeed, security, finance, health, digitalization, trade and urbanism, audiovisual, higher education and scientific research have all been areas of important reforms this year.

Structural and pipeline projects have been implemented in areas as diverse as health, digital technology, energy, fishing, agriculture, public works, housing, transport, water and food security.

At the social level, the achievements of the past four years have been consolidated and will be maintained and disseminated to all vulnerable groups; the action plan for the Republican School will be completed and health coverage will witness an unprecedented boom in the country.

I cannot end this presentation without thanking all our technical and financial partners, as well as brotherly and friendly countries, for their continued support and accompaniment. I express to them here, on behalf of the Mauritanian Government and people, our full gratitude.
