President of Republic Presents Gambian President With African Prize for Promoting Peace

His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, presented Mr. Adama Barrow, the President of the Republic of Gambia, with the African Prize for Promoting Peace, awarded each year by the African Conference for Promoting peace to one of the active leaders of dialogue, reconciliation, and peace.

The prize was awarded during the launching ceremony of the 4th edition of this conference on 9 January at El Mourabitoune International Conference Center in Nouakchott.

In a speech on this occasion, the Gambian President thanked the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, for overseeing this event, which addresses ways to strengthen peace mechanisms in our African continent, which is facing many challenges.

He said he received this award with great gratitude and appreciation, as it constitutes an impetus and strengthening of peace and stability efforts in our two countries and on the African continent, in general.

President Barrow stressed that promoting the culture of peace and disseminating the principles of fraternity and justice are fundamental issues for our African continent to enjoy security and stability.

He said that peace is an individual and collective project, dependent on policies that oppose violence and adversities and that work to preserve rights and freedoms, stressing that peace is synonymous with tolerance and coexistence peaceful, promoting economic development and allowing everyone to live in peace.

He stressed the need for all Africans to contribute to achieving peace and economic development, noting that peace and security are central to making Africa an oasis of development and stability.

He thanked the organizers of this conference for organizing this event and honoring him with this award, congratulating his African counterparts who received this award during previous editions of this conference.
