President of Republic Laays First Stone of Monguel-Sawata, Sawata – Barkeol Road

On 28 December, in Monguel, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, supervised the laying of the first stone of the Monguel-Sawata and Sawata-Barkeol axis, as part of the celebrations of the 63rd anniversary of National Independence.

This road opens up the Aftout area by creating two road axes: the Monguel – Sawata axis 47 km long, and the Sawata – El Bourat – Al-Ghabra – Boulahrath – Barkeol axis,  76 km long. The completion of this road will cost a financial envelope of approximately (18) billion old ouguiyas, and will be carried out by Military Engineering within 38 months under the direct supervision of the Ministry’s Infrastructure Works Directorate.

After the laying of the first stone and the removal of the commemorative plaque, His Excellency the President of the Republic received explanations of the technical processes followed in the construction of this road, and the control methods which will be applied to build it in accordance with the conditions stipulated in the specifications.

This road will be the lung of formerly landlocked areas of the country, however characterized by a high population density. It will thus connect the South and East of the country and cross areas that experience significant rainfall and are home to wadis which hinder the flow of road traffic during the rainy season.
