President of Republic Lays First Stone of Gorgol-Guidimagha Electrical Connection Project

On 28 December, in Kaedi, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, proceeded to the laying of the first stone of the electrical connection project between Gorgol and Guidimagha.

The project aims to expand medium and low-voltage electricity networks in the southeastern region of the country and establish electrical energy distribution and transmission systems to electrify 79 agglomerations with more than 130,000 inhabitants in the wilayas of Gorgol and Guidimagha.

The project, whose total cost is 16 billion MRO, financed by the Kuwaiti Fund for Development and the Mauritanian State, aims to establish and operate a 33-kilovolt medium voltage network, 746 km long, between the cities of Kaedi and Selibabi, to expand the 90.33-kilovolt distribution station, currently located in Kaedi, the construction of low-voltage electrical lines, 632 km long, the installation of 103 electrical transformers of different capacities, the installation of more than 2,000 public lighting units, and service to more than 23,000 new subscribers.

The President of the Republic received detailed explanations of the project from the Director General of the National Electricity Company before laying the first stone, thus kicking off the start of the work.
