Launching the data collection process of the Fifth General Population and Housing Census

On Sunday 24 December in Nouakchott, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Chairman of the National Census Committee, Mr. Abdessalam Mohamed Saleh, supervised, , in the presence of the Ministers of the Interior and Decentralization, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed Lamine, and Culture, Youth, Sports and Relations with Parliament, Mr. Ahmed Ould Sid’amed Edj, the opening of the data collection work of the Fifth Population and Housing Census, and an awareness campaign to publicize its objectives.

During the ceremony, sketches and songs were presented to introduce the importance of this census, organized by the National Agency for Statistics and Demographic and Economic Analysis, from December 25 to January 9.

The launch of this census comes within the framework of the implementation of the recommendations of the United Nations to organize a general census of population and housing every ten years by Member States, following the completion of four previous censuses during the years 1977, 1988, 2000 and 2013.
