France Funds Youth, Culture, Sports Projects in Mauritania

On 21 December, in Nouakchott, Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, signed with HE Mr.  Alexandre Garcia, the French Ambassador to Mauritania, an agreement dedicated to financing the Youth, Culture, and Sports project.

The current funding amounts to eighteen million euros (€18,000,000), or approximately seven hundred and sixty-eight million Ouguiyas (MRU 768,000,000).

The project aims to improve the living conditions of people living in fragile neighborhoods, through the rehabilitation, extension, and equipment of urban socio-cultural centers (free and open to all) for young people, and the provision of their

equipment.

This equipment will make it possible to improve the management of these infrastructures by building the capacities of public and civil society actors to ensure their sustainability, good governance, and equitable, sustainable, and efficient access to quality urban goods and services, as well as

to support cultural and sporting ecosystems as a basis for social cohesion in the context of rich cultural diversity.
