On 15 December, HE Mr. Jose Manuel Albares Bueno, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain, paid a working visit to our country at the head of a large delegation from his country.
Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, held a working session behind closed doors with his Spanish host at the ministry’s headquarters in Nouakchott, which was then extended to members of the delegations of the two countries.
The talks between the two sides focused on the friendly relations and strategic partnership between the two countries and the prospects of strengthening and developing them in mutual interest, just as they reviewed international and regional developments.
The two ministers welcomed the recent ratification of the Treaty of Friendship and Good Neighborhood between the two countries and the level of bilateral cooperation in the areas of fisheries, migration, security, and renewable energies, and expressed their satisfaction with the level of their coordination at the regional and international levels, to serve the interests of the two countries and regional and international security and stability.
They highlighted the convergence of their views on the need to resolve all conflicts in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and international humanitarian law.
Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug welcomed the positions of the Kingdom of Spain in this regard, particularly with regard to Israel’s war against the defenseless Palestinian people and the flagrant violations of international conventions that it represents.
