Dubai: President of Republic Participates in Discussion on Green Industrialization

On 2 December, on the sidelines of the COP 28 at Expo Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, participated in a high-level working session dedicated to discussing the theme: ”Green Industrialization in Africa”.

The President of the Republic was one of the first and most eminent speakers who raised the challenges facing the African continent and the prospects and opportunities to which it aspires in this promising field.

In response to a few questions addressed to him as a speaker at the session, His Excellency, the President of the Republic, clarified that he saw no contradiction between the development of our country’s gas resources and its ambition to develop the green hydrogen sector.

He stressed that it is not at all fair to deprive developing countries of the exploitation of their energy resources due to the cost of the energy transition, considering that energy transition is the appropriate term, because it means a transition to achieve a transformation.

In response to another question concerning Mauritania, the President of the Republic added that our country has significant gas resources of more than 100 trillion cubic feet, as well as significant renewable energy resources such as solar and wind energy, which can be developed immediately to produce green hydrogen, particularly in the northwestern regions of the country, which is also an important mining area, especially in terms of iron production.

His Excellency, the President of the Republic explained that our country’s objective by 2030 is to develop the green hydrogen sector on a large scale for export and local use.
