Palestinian Ambassador in Nouakchott: “What Is Happening in the Gaza Strip is a Genocide, and We Call for International Protection for the Palestinian People”

HE Mr. Mohamed Qasim Asaad al-Asaad, the Palestinian Ambassador to Mauritania, said that what is happening today in the Gaza Strip is difficult to describe: mass killings that resemble genocide with the use of all types of weapons, even those banned at the international level. Such acts constitute a humanitarian catastrophe reflected in targeted killings, systematic destruction, forced transfers, and the disruption of water, electricity, fuel, food, and medicine supply.

During a news conference held on 18 October at the embassy headquarters in Nouakchott, he added that they had repeatedly warned against the consequences of the continued Israeli occupation of the land of Palestine and daily violations and crimes by the occupying forces and organized and armed settler militias against defenseless Palestinian civilians, their lands, their holy sites, their homes, their property, and their facilities.

He praised the support and position of Mauritania, its leaders, its government, its people, its parties, and its institutions, led by His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, as it was one of the first countries to condemn and denounce the brutal attack and heinous massacre perpetrated against the Baptist Hospital and declare three days of mourning.

He called for an end to genocide, aggression, killings, destruction, and captivity of Palestinian families, stressing the need for urgent international intervention to force the occupying state to end its destructive war in the Gaza Strip and the crimes of ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Mr. al-Asaad called on world leaders to strongly condemn the massacre, demand accountability, end all official contact with the Israeli terrorist state, and provide immediate protection to the defenseless Palestinian people.
