On 31 August, in Nouakchott, Mr. El Houssein Ould Meddou, the President of the Press and Broadcasting High Authority (HAPA), received HE Ms. Isabel Henin, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Mauritania.
During the meeting, Mr. Ould Meddou reviewed the HAPA’s missions, duties, strengthening, and expansion following the reform initiated by the President of the Republic in 2020.
This reform falls in the framework of an overall reform of the Mauritanian press so that it plays its role effectively, on the one hand, and to strengthen freedom of the press and expression on the other.
He also highlighted the activities of the HAPA in several areas, such as regulation, training, access to information, guarantee of equal access to candidates, gender, etc.
The two parties also discussed ways to expand and develop avenues of cooperation.
Ms. Henin expressed her satisfaction with the meeting and her desire to see the cooperation between the two parties widen further in the various fields, to possibly encompass digital technology, elections, training, and the fight against fake news that constitute promising avenues of cooperation between the two institutions.
