President of Republic Receives UN Secretary General Special Representative for West Africa, Sahel

On 17 August, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, received HE Mr.Leonardo Santos Simao, the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Special Envoy of the Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel.

At the end of the meeting, the UN Diplomat made the following statement to the Mauritanian news agency: “Hello, in my capacity as Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, I have just been received by the President of the Republic to whom I conveyed the compliments of the Secretary General and his wishes for good health.

I am on a mission to visit the countries of the region to understand the political, economic, and social situation of each of the countries visited and to see how to combine our efforts to address the challenges facing the region, including insecurity, the fight against

terrorism, and the maintenance of peace and stability.

We have the situation in Mali and Niger and other countries. We must also help to regain stability and development.

So, that’s, in short, the purpose of my visit and the content of my meeting with the President of the Republic.
