President of Republic Receives MNPT Annual Report

On 15 August, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, received Mr. Bekaye Ould Abdel Malick, the President of the National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture (MNPT), who presented him with theannual activity report of the mechanism.

At the end of the meeting, the MNPT President told the Mauritanian news agency that he was honored by the audience that the President of the Republic granted to him to deliver the annual report before describing the mechanism as anindependent national body responsible for monitoring places of detention, examining the prison situation, the living conditions of the population and the prison environment, in general.

Mr. Bekaye Ould Abdel Malick stressed that with globalization, the perverse effects of the digital society, and the polarization of the media landscape, the mission of monitoring places of detention, which is becoming more and more difficult and complicated, needs

synergy between stakeholders.

Finally, he thanked the President of the Republic for the audience he granted him and for the confidence and the mandate, the ministerial departments concerned, all the judicial and security officials, the foreign partners, and all

those who contributed to the production of the report.
