President of Republic Renews Mauritania’s Commitment to One-China Principle
On 28 July, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, renewed Mauritania’s commitment to the principle of one China, during a meeting with Mr. Xi Jinping, the President of the People’s Republic of China, in Chengdu.
His Excellency also stressed that Mauritania and China have privileged relations and that their cooperation in various fields has yielded positive results.
He added that Mauritania highly appreciates China’s continued support in various fields, noting that many important facilities and projects have been built thanks to the Chinese cooperation, stressing the importance of its medical assistance to the country.
“All these achievements have had a positive impact on the life of the Mauritanian people and promoted local economic and social development,” as the President of the Republic put it.
For his part, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that China is ready to work with Mauritania to raise bilateral friendly cooperation to higher levels.
He said China and Mauritania enjoy deep traditional friendship and are mutually supportive partners in pursuing development while enhancing political mutual trust, deepening practical cooperation, and expanding cultural exchanges between peoples.
On the development side, Xi Jinping said China firmly supports Mauritania in pursuing the development path appropriate to its national conditions, rejects external interference in its internal affairs, and appreciates Mauritania’s clear support for China in international issues. Speaking of areas of cooperation, the Chinese president said that his country has, over the years, helped Mauritania to implement roads, bridges, hospitals, and other major projects that benefit the well-being of the population.
He reiterated that China will continue to encourage its companies to play an active role in energy, fisheries, mining, infrastructure, and other sectors for the welfare of the Mauritanian people.
Regarding China’s commitment to Arab and other developing countries, President Xi Jinping said China is ready to work with Arab countries, including Mauritania, to make every effort to build a Sino-Arab community with a shared future for the new era and to work together to develop Sino-Arab relations.
Finally, he explained that Mauritania is an important witness, participant, and contributor to China-Africa cooperation, expressing China’s willingness to work with the Mauritanian side to build a community of Sino-African destiny in the new era.
