Preparations for the visit of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to the People’s Republic of China at the end of this month were at the heart of talks on 7 July with the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Moma Ould Beibate Hamahallah with HE Mr. Li Beijing, the Chinese Ambassador to Mauritania.
During the meeting, the Minister highlighted the exemplary historical relations between the two countries, particularly in the agricultural field, and recalled that China has accompanied Mauritania since its independence in the development fields, particularly the agriculture.
In this context, he recalled the creation of the first rice farm; M’Pourie farm, which marked the first milestone on the road to agricultural development in Mauritania, followed by the agricultural technology Center in M’Bagne, in Brakna, which is also a key step in this cooperation.
Regarding the expected visit of the President of the Republic to China, the Minister indicated that it would give a new impetus to these relations in view of the primordial importance that agriculture occupies in the program of His Excellency.
The Minister then noted that the following areas are priorities for his department:
– Revitalization of the center of M’Bagne;
– Project for pumping water from the river from Boghe to Aleg to be able to exploit areas estimated at 30 hectares;
– Draw inspiration from China’s experience in agricultural mechanization and improved access to it, whether in rain-fed or irrigated areas;
– Draw inspiration from China’s experience in agricultural diversification, training, and technology transfer;
For his part, the Chinese diplomat appreciated the presentation made by the Minister of Agriculture and stressed the importance of the President of the Republic’s upcoming visit to China.
He reiterated that Agriculture would be of particular interest during this visit.
