On 24 April, in Nouakchott, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, had a meeting, behind closed doors, with his Algerian counterpart, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad of the sisterly People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, who is currently on a working visit to Mauritania, the first he has paid abroad since taking charge of the Foreign Affairs portfolio.
The meeting was then extended to include members of the Mauritanian and Algerian delegations before the two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding on political consultations as a mechanism for sustainable and regular consultations between them on issues of common interest, which will certainly strengthen and support the political relations between the two countries.
The consultations seek to lay solid foundations which guarantee the continuation of the promotion of cooperation for the benefit of the two brotherly people, in accordance with the strong political will of the leaders of the two countries, His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and his brother, His Excellency President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The visit of the Algerian minister intends to strengthen bilateral cooperative relations between the two brotherly countries.
