Minister of Foreign Affairs Receives Delegation From Alliance for Sahel

On 23 Februry, in Nouakchott, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, received a high-level delegation from the Alliance for the Sahel.

This delegation includes Ms. Carmen Magarino, the Director in charge of Africa and Asia at the Spanish Cooperation, representative of the President of the General Assembly of the Spanish Alliance, Mr. Ousman Jacana, the President for East Africa West and Center at the World Bank, Chairman of the Spanish Cooperation Steering Committee, and Mr. Emanuel Debroise, the Coordinator of the Coordination Unit of the Spanish Alliance, accompanied by Ms. Clara Da Souza, the Director in charge of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Chad, Ms. Buthaina Karmazi, the Director of Regional Integration, Mr. Stephane Martin, a Senior Specialist in the Cooperation Department of the World Bank, and Ms. Celia Koussi, a Consultant.

The meeting reviewed the cooperation relations between Mauritania and the Alliance and the means of strengthening them, in light of Mauritania’s presidency of the G-5 Sahel.

The partners expressed their appreciation for the leading role that Mauritania is playing in the region and expressed their willingness to support its efforts and contribute to development programs in the five Sahelian countries, in coordination with the Mauritanian authorities and the permanent secretariat of the G-5 Sahel.
