President of Republic Receives AfDB President

On 13 September, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, received Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the President of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB).
The talk touched on the areas of cooperation between Mauritania and this financial institution and ways to enhance and develop it in the service of economic development in our country.
Soon after the meeting, the AfDB President stated that the meeting constituted an opportunity to thank the President of the Republic for the acceptable level that the Mauritanian economy has reached despite the current international circumstances and to congratulate the Mauritanian government on the efforts made to advance economic development in the country.
In a statement to the Mauritanian news agency, Mr. Adesina reiterated his financial institution’s commitment to support Mauritania in its development efforts, noting that AfDB had provided significant financial support to Mauritania as a contribution to promoting development.
He congratulated Mauritania on how it has dealt with the debt file, which limited its effects on the national economy, pointing out that discussions are underway with the International Monetary Fund and AfDB to find promising opportunities to strengthen the Mauritanian economy.
The AfDB President highlighted that his meeting with the President of the Republic touched upon, among other things, the issue of agriculture, to which the Bank attaches great importance to increase agricultural production and achieve self-sufficiency, as well as the issue of youth and its role in development.
He expressed his happiness to learn about the details of the project to supply the city of Nouakchott with drinking water (Aftout Essahili) and to visit the Independent Port of Nouakchott.
