NATO Assistant Secretary General: ?We are working to strengthen cooperation with Mauritania?

Mr. Javier Colomina, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, said the Alliance is working to strengthen and deepen cooperation with Mauritania as a pivotal country in the region and a long-standing partner of the NATO.

In a statement to the Mauritanian news agency (AMI) shortly after a meeting with His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, that NATO is taking some steps over the coming months and years to strengthen and intensify cooperation between the two sides.

He stressed the importance of this meeting that reviewed the areas of cooperation and coordination between NATO and Mauritania, noting that the meeting also focused on the regional security situation, particularly in the Sahel.

It is noteworthy that the NATO official, who is currently visiting Mauritania, also met with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, National Defense, and Interior and Decentralization.
