On 9 March, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, oversaw, in Nouakchott, the inauguration of several important development projects in the field of electrical energy, which will constitute a qualitative leap in the field of reinforcement of the electricity network at the level of the cities of Nouakchott and Nouadhibou as well as the various cities and villages located between them.

The first project that was inaugurated concerns a 225-KVA high voltage power line linking the double power station in Northern Nouakchott and the network of the Organization for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS) in South Nouakchott over 21 kilometers.

This line will strengthen the electricity network of Nouakchott, particularly the southern part, which was experiencing a major deficit in terms of electricity coverage. It will also enhance the development and stimulation of the electrical energy transport and supply system, in addition to strengthening the electrical interconnection with the OMVS countries.

The total cost of this line is 85,25513 dollars, financed by the Mauritanian State, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, and the Islamic Development Bank.

As for the second project, launched by the President of the Republic, it concerns a 225 KVA high voltage line that connects the Northern Nouakchott hybrid power plant to the city of Nouadhibou over 470 km.

This project will have the effect of strengthening the electricity supply of the city of Nouadhibou, the free zone, and major industries located in the north of the country, with the development of the economic activity, the improvement of the rate of access to electricity, the development of national resources, particularly gas, solar, and wind energy, and developing exchanges of electricity with neighboring countries.

This line will also supply electricity to the towns and villages crossed, particularly the town of Chami, the site of Tasiast, and the district of Boulenouar. The total cost of this line is MRO 47.8 billion, financed by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development and Exim Bank of India.

The third project concerns the new headquarters of the Mauritanian Electricity Company, the total cost of which amounted to 97,925,200 ouguiyas. The new head office, which will provide this important company with a place conducive to the management of its affairs, is located on an area of 6,745 square meters and consists of 4 floors in addition to the ground floor, including 144 offices and 15 meeting rooms.

After cutting the symbolic ribbon to give the go-ahead of the effective operation of these development projects, His Excellency followed a presentation on the various technical data related to these installations and their capacities and the qualitative contribution that they offer to the national electricity network and the cities and towns that would benefit from them.
