The President of the Republic at the 7th EU-Africa Business Forum on Energy: “Mauritania has an immeasurable potential in renewable energy resources”

On 14 February, the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, said that Mauritania has significant renewable resource potential. The latest assessment of the country’s potential gives a level of total resources of 4,000 GW, of which 500 GW could be developed, in compliance with the strictest technical and environmental regulations.”
The President of the Republic was addressing the 7th EU-Africa Business Forum entitled “Hydrogen and green shipping for clean energy: market prerequisites and green energy transition opportunities for African-EU partnership”, co-organized by the EU and AU Commissions, as well as European and African business organizations.

He added that Mauritania’s policy of promoting green hydrogen completes its national strategy for universal access to electricity by 2030, currently being prepared with the support of the European Union and our other development partners.

He stressed that the development of renewable energies and green hydrogen could be a solid starting point for constructing the new Alliance between Africa and Europe that President Emanuel Macron recently called for before the European Parliament.

He affirmed that Mauritania is ready for this strategic partnership and is counting, in its implementation, on the active commitment and multifaceted support of Europe.
