Signing of Contracts for the Construction of the Electricity Interconnection Line Between Mauritania and Mali

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Mohamed Ould Khaled, and  the Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Mr. Abdallahi Ould Suleyman Ould Cheikh Sidiya, presided over a ceremony to sign contracts for the implementation of key components of the electricity interconnection project between Mauritania and Mali.

This program involves the construction of a 225-kilovolt high-voltage transmission line connecting the cities of Kiffa and Teintane over a distance of 114 km, and then extending from Teintane to the city of Ayoune over a distance of 70 km, in addition to the construction of modern electrical substations in these cities, thereby ensuring the continuity and stability of electricity distribution.

The total cost of the (Kifah–Teintane–Ayoune) line project is approximately $135 million, funded by the African Development Bank, the Green Climate Fund, and the OPEC Fund for International Development, as part of their support for regional electricity interconnection programs, particularly the “Desert to Power”.

This regional project is an important strategic step toward strengthening energy integration among countries in the region and represents the fruit of fruitful cooperation within the framework of the Senegal River Investment Organization.
