The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad has called on members of the Mauritanian community residing in the Arab Gulf and Middle East region to exercise the utmost caution, following the escalation in the region.
In a statement released on March 5, the ministry explained that this monitoring is being carried out on the instructions of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, with the ministry closely monitoring the conditions and situation of Mauritanian communities residing in this region.
The ministry urged Mauritanian citizens in the countries concerned to follow the instructions of the competent authorities in the host countries and to contact, if necessary, the Mauritanian diplomatic and consular missions in those countries, indicating that a list of phone numbers is attached to the statement.
The ministry announced the creation of a crisis unit at the departmental level to continuously monitor the situation of Mauritanian communities in the region, in coordination with diplomatic and consular missions, to ensure a rapid response to citizens’ concerns.
It stated that its diplomatic and consular missions are constantly mobilized to provide various forms of support and assistance to Mauritanian nationals abroad.
The ministry also announced the availability of a toll-free number for Mauritanian citizens in the countries concerned: 80001717.
