Nouakchott, 12 November 2020 (AMI)-The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, held a phone call, on Wednesday, with the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres.
The talks focused on the conflict in the Guergarat strip, near the northern border of Mauritania.
Both parties talked about the gravity of the existing situation, expressing their fear that it exacerbate further and escalate into violence, whose consequences are disastrous.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs recalled the pioneering role that everyone expects from the United Nations to resolve the crisis as soon as possible.
On his part, Mr. Antonio informed the minister of the contacts he has been making for two days and expressed his concerns about the gravity of the situation on the ground.
