The Mauritanian coast guard spotted, on Monday, seven illegal migrants on the coast of Nouadhibou after the sinking of their boat, according to a source of this body contacted by Mauritanian news agency.
Four of the survivors were transferred to hospital for emergency treatment.
According to the same source, the recovered migrants had left a few days ago aboard a boat; they were part of a group of 54 people including children and women. Their place of departure was outside the Mauritanian borders. A breakdown of their boat in the middle of the ocean had prevented the group from reaching their destination.
The boat was at sea for a long time, which depleted resources and killed the rest of the crew, according to survivors’ statements.
