Trade, Environment Ministers Visit Commissioner-General for Exhibitions

On 9 August, the ministers of Trade, Industry, Handicrafts, and Tourism, Ms. Naha Mint Moukness, and Environment and Sustainable Development, Ms. Mariem Bekaye, paid a visit to the Commissioner-General for Exhibitions to inquire about the preparations for Mauritanian participation in the week dedicated to the issue of climate and biodiversity, which is part of the activities of Expo Dubai 2020.

During the visit, the two ministers followed explanations from the general commissioner and followed certain exhibitions to realize the level of functionality of the stands.

In a statement on this occasion, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development indicated that participation in the week dedicated to climate and biodiversity is of particular importance, especially in a context where the climate issue is essential following the climatic disturbances that we observe all over the world, causing the loss of a large part of its biodiversity.

She explained that, within this framework, Mauritania is revising its climate policy which will be presented to the COP26 and will have to review its national biodiversity strategy to integrate the objectives that will emerge from the expected international conference.

Ms. Mariem Bekaye added that her department will participate, as moderator, in the biodiversity week and in other similar events, to allow Mauritania to play a pioneering role in the field of advocacy and leadership at the international level in the field of sustainable development.
