On 30 December, in Nouadhibou, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, inaugurated a fish processing and recovery plant belonging to the “RIM FISH GLOBAL” company in the port of Baie du Repos (PBR) area, as part of the celebrations of the 65th anniversary of National Independence Day.
The President of the Republic attended a technical presentation on the plant’s components, its storage capacity, and its contribution to improving the performance of the artisanal fishing sector, as well as the employment opportunities it will offer, before he cut the symbolic ribbon and unveiled the plaque, marking the start of this facility’s operations.
The plant spans an area of 3,000 square meters and boasts a freezing capacity of 83 tons, along with a storage capacity of up to 2,000 tons. This will help modernize the fishing industry’s infrastructure and enhance its competitiveness.
This project will create 115 direct jobs and 150 indirect jobs, thereby enhancing added value and supporting local economic activity, while also contributing to increased foreign exchange earnings.
The plant, which cost US$10 million, is the result of a partnership between national businessmen and foreign investors. Like other similar development projects, it is part of measures taken to transform the city of Nouadhibou into a hub for development and industry.
