Mauritanian-Sudanese Negotiations on Cooperation in Agricultural Sector

Cooperation relations between Mauritania and Sudan and the means to strengthen them, particularly in the field of agricultural development, dominated the meeting which brought together, Friday in Nouakchott, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Sidina Ould Ahmed Ely and his Sudanese counterpart, Mr. Taher Ismail Mohamed Harbi.

The two sides discussed various areas of cooperation, exchange of experiences, and research in the agricultural field.

During the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Sidina Ould Ahmed Ely, welcomed his Sudanese counterpart, praising the depth and strength of bilateral relations between the two countries.

He added that Mauritania is particularly interested in the Sudanese experience which is well rooted in the fields of irrigated and rain-fed agriculture as well as research. He stressed the need to benefit from such an experience, before reviewing the efforts made to boost agriculture in our country and the available potentials reinforced by Mauritania’s strategic position.

For his part, Mr. Taher Ismail Mohamed Harbi said he was happy to visit Mauritania, recalling the historic role of the “Chanaghitas” (Ulemas of Bilad Chinguitty) in Sudan. He highlighted the progress that our country has achieved in the current phase and expressed Sudan’s readiness to cooperate and exchange experiences with Mauritania in different agricultural fields.
