The First Lady, along with her accompanying delegation, toured the various wings of the exhibition, where she reviewed all the displays and designs, and received detailed explanations from those in charge, highlighting the importance of this field and organizing it to meet the aspirations of traders and investors, especially women, as well as serving as a lever for the national economy.
The attendance of the First Lady at this large exhibition is a sincere reflection of her serious and relentless interest in supporting women and their leadership, as well as everything related to the country’s development and improving its economic performance, toward a reality that lays the foundation for a better future.
In her remarks on the occasion, the Minister of Social Work, Childhood, and Family, Mrs. Safia N’taha, expressed her happiness at the opening of the first edition of the Gold Exhibition, noting that it is an economic event that comes at an important moment for the development of national industries and the support of promising women’s initiatives.
She explained that the First Lady, Dr. Mariam Mohammed Fadhil Al-Dah’s sponsorship of this exhibition, is not merely support for an economic event, as she has always been in backing and advocating for women’s initiatives, but a clear message that the state places at the top of its priorities the empowerment of creative women, the encouragement of national industry, and the opening of new paths for employment and production for the benefit of citizens.
She added that the First Lady’s patronage of this event represents direct support for female artisans and businesswomen, reinforcing a national path aimed at transforming women’s creativity from being merely an individual talent into a real economic lever, contributing to building a competitive national industry, supporting employment, and creating sustainable income for families.
She stated that this exhibition is fully in line with the strategic directions of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Sheikh Ghazouani, who has made empowering women and expanding their participation in the national economy a fundamental pillar of his societal program, explaining that the government, led by His Excellency the Prime Minister, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Daddah, has translated this vision into policies and programs that have opened new horizons for women in various productive sectors, including the gold and mineral sectors.
She praised the efforts of the craftsmen and women participating in this exhibition, highlighting the creativity they showcase that reflects their ability to move from traditional craftsmanship to skilled industry with high economic value, appreciating the role of male investors who contribute their expertise and investments in creating a balanced professional environment that allows female talents to develop, innovate, and compete with confidence.
She indicated that this exhibition represents a strategic opportunity that should be built upon to enhance local gold and jewelry manufacturing and to develop products bearing an authentic Mauritanian signature, explaining that creating integrated value chains including design, production, preparation, and marketing will help raise the competitiveness of national products, open new export horizons, and support the national economy.
She pointed out that women craftsmen will remain at the core of this approach, with their skills and creativity capable of transforming the sector into a genuine industry that serves society and provides extensive opportunities for youth.
For her part, the head of the Gold Exhibition, Mrs. Data Al-Tayeb, explained that this exhibition was not born by chance, but rather thanks to a clear vision and a strong will for Mauritanian gold to be an organized, transparent economic element capable of supporting traders and the national economy.
She concluded that the ‘Gold Exhibition’ is not just an exhibition, but rather a reformative step, an economic message, and a national project aimed at organizing the gold market in Mauritania, empowering Mauritanian merchants within their own country, uniting all gold traders in a single, organized market, and enhancing national and international investment with trust and transparency. She clarified that from this perspective, the slogan ‘Our Gold in Our Market’ was coined, so that it benefits the country.
She confirmed that preparations for the second edition of this exhibition have begun to make it a distinguished edition, noting that it will be an international edition with broad international participation.
The attendees then followed a presentation delivered by the technical advisor in charge of minerals at the Ministry of Mines and Industry, Mr. Ahmed Taleb Ould Mohamed, on ‘The Lifeline of Gold in Mauritania: History, Production, Impact, and Economy,’ where he confirmed that Mauritania has many opportunities in gold production, highlighting that it stands out from neighboring countries with a range of positive advantages that allow it to benefit more in this field.
