Meeting between Mauritanian, Malian Transport Ministers

The Minister of Equipment and Transport, Mr. Mohamedou Ahmedou M’haimid, and the Malian Minister of Transport and Infrastructures, Ms. Dembele Madina Sissoko had, Thursday in Nouakchott, a meeting devoted to economic axes in the development of commercial exchanges between the two countries.

Mr. Mohamedou Ahmedou M’haimid said, in his speech, that the economic axes are a real means of integration and economic complementarity.

He indicated that the Nouakchott-Bamako axis constitutes one of the main axes in the sub-region since it contributes effectively to the economic complementarity between Mauritania and Mali and creates an integrated economic development.

The Minister said that to give real impetus to this axis, a commission was set up to diagnose the various obstacles that prevent its revitalization, stressing that the commission has been able, since its creation, to identify a series of obstacles that have been overcome.

He noted that within the framework of the bilateral partnership and to encourage the action of the Nouakchott-Bamako axis, his department will work to remove various barriers and obstacles to boost the development of trade in goods and services between the two countries and to create a green zone making it possible to accelerate the pace of administrative measures relating to the commercial activities in brotherly Mali at the level of the Port of Friendship.

For her part, Ms. Dembele Madina Sissoko praised the historical economic relations between Mauritania and Mali as well as the integration and complementarity between their two people, calling on carriers from both countries to create a dynamic to raise the level of trade between the two countries. She emphasized the importance of the meeting which will strengthen cooperation between Mauritania and Mali, in the field of goods transport through the Nouakchott-Bamako axis.
