Official and popular Reception for the Mauritanian Delegation participating in the ‘Fleet of Steadfastness’ to break the Siege of the Gaza Strip

Last night, the Mauritanian delegation participating in the Flotilla of Resilience to break the siege on the Gaza Strip arrived in Nouakchott, led by citizen Mohamed Vall Ould Cheikh, who had been detained by the Israeli occupation authorities, after tremendous efforts by the Mauritanian authorities which culminated in his release and return to his homeland.
The delegation was received at Nouakchott International Airport ‘Oumtounsi’ by a high-ranking official delegation including: Mohamed Ben Tata, Ambassador on a special mission, Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mamadou Ball, Director General of Horizontal Support; Abderrahmane Daddah, Ambassador, Director of Mauritanians Abroad; Ahmed Douh, Ambassador, Director of Communication; Mohamed Diop, Ambassador, Director of Protocol; Aminta Ba, Assistant Director of the African Union Department; and Amina Sidi Mohamed, Assistant Director of the Arab World Department.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad announced, in a statement issued in this regard, the release of the Mauritanian citizen Mohamed Fall Mohameden (known as Mohamed Fall Ould Sheikh), who had been detained by the Israeli occupation authorities due to his participation in the Steadfastness Convoy heading to the Gaza Strip to lift the siege.
The statement explained that the ministry has been following the case from the very beginning with great interest, under the high directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. It initiated intensive communications at the highest levels to ensure the citizen’s safety, to monitor his situation, and to work on securing his release and return to the homeland.
The statement added that the ministry formed a special committee including representatives from its relevant diplomatic missions to coordinate efforts and follow developments around the clock, highlighting that these efforts were successful and, thanks to God, the Mauritanian citizen was released and returned to Nouakchott.
The statement pointed out that the ministry, along with the Mauritanian people, celebrates this national moment by welcoming the freed citizen at Nouakchott International Airport ‘Oumtounsi,’ considering that this experience embodied the spirit of solidarity and support.
It confirmed its continued support for Mauritanian citizens wherever they are, and its commitment to defending their dignity and rights by all legitimate diplomatic means, expressing its thanks and gratitude to all fraternal and friendly governments that contributed to this success.
At the end of its statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed Mauritania’s firm position in support of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, calling on the international community to take a firm stance to stop the genocide in the Palestinian territories and pave the way for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant United Nations resolutions.
In a press statement upon his return to his homeland, journalist Mohamed Vall Ould Cheikh expressed his deep gratitude to the Mauritanian government for its efforts, under the guidance of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to secure his release and safe return to his homeland.He also praised the role played by the Mauritanian people in supporting this cause and their steadfastness in upholding principles that support and assist the Palestinian people.
He talked about the harassment that the fleet faced from the Israeli occupation, and what he and his group experienced during detention, in order to break the siege on the Palestinian people, emphasizing that all the difficulties and harassment they faced from the occupation are insignificant compared to what this people suffers from in terms of extermination, siege, and unjust starvation.
The citizens held a massive popular reception for the participants in the fleet, as an expression of their support and solidarity with them, in appreciation of their stance in solidarity with the Palestinian people afflicted in their just cause, and demanding the lifting of the siege on them and the cessation of the Israeli war machine against this defenseless people.
A large gathering of people from various segments of the Mauritanian population also participated in the reception, expressing their pride in this noble national and humanitarian stance.
