Mauritania Strongly Condemns Israel’s Plan To Fully Occupy Gaza

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania has condemned in the strongest possible terms the plan announced by the Israeli Council of Ministers to occupy the Gaza Strip fully.

In a statement released on 8 August by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, a copy of which was received by Mauritanian news agency, Mauritania called on the international community to act to prevent the catastrophic consequences of this unjust plan, halt the systematic genocide against the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, and establish a solid basis for a just and lasting solution that preserves the dignity of the Palestinian people and protects their inalienable rights.

The statement reads as follows:

“In an unprecedented escalation, the Israeli Council of Ministers has announced a plan for the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip, in addition to the war of extermination, to consolidate settlement and occupation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, in flagrant violation of international and humanitarian conventions and laws, and undermine appeasement efforts and peace initiatives in the region.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania, while condemning this unjust decision in the strongest possible terms, reaffirms its constant support for the Palestinian people and its commitment to their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.

Given the serious threat to peace and security posed by this grave event, and the deepening of hatred and incitement to extremism in the region and throughout the world, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania calls on the entire international community to act, without delay, to prevent the catastrophic consequences of this unjust plan, halt the systematic genocide against the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, and establish a solid basis for a just and lasting solution that preserves the dignity of the Palestinian people and protects their inalienable rights. It is through this just and lasting solution, and through it alone, that the region can enjoy security, peace, and stability.”
