Nouakchott
The National Human Rights, Humanitarian Affairs and Civil Society Relations Commission launched a public awareness campaign in Nouakchott today to highlight the dangers of human trafficking and to present the content of the laws that criminalise it.
This campaign forms part of the activities organised to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Human Trafficking. It aims to raise awareness of the dangers of human trafficking, as well as emphasising the importance of protecting and supporting victims. The campaign seeks to achieve this by strengthening the capabilities of administrative, judicial and security agencies.
In a speech during the launch of this awareness campaign, the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Sid Ahmed Ould Bennane, emphasized that this campaign falls within the framework of implementing the national policy to combat human trafficking, embodying the vision of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to consolidate the rule of law, protect human dignity, enhance community awareness, and bridge gaps
He stressed the importance of concerted efforts and cooperation among various partners to build a society free from exploitation and human trafficking, in which every individual enjoys dignity, justice, and security.
He explained that this convoy will contribute to consolidating a culture of absolute rejection of all forms of human trafficking and raising awareness of its dangers and the need to combat it.
The launch ceremony for this convoy was attended by the Assistant Commissioner and a number of UNHCR officials.
