President of Republic Reviews Country’s Great Opportunities, Potential at Meeting With US President

During a meeting on 9 July with his US counterpart Donald Trump, at the White House in Washington, in the presence of the Presidents of Senegal, Gabon, Liberia, and Guinea-Bissau, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, expressed his deep gratitude for the invitation extended to him and his colleagues present, hailing the US President’s efforts to establish peace in several regions of the world; He stressed the need to work to end the war in the Gaza Strip. The President then reviewed Mauritania’s opportunities and potential.

The President of the Republic stated that this invitation represented a positive message reflecting the United States’ interest in the countries of the African continent, expressing his great satisfaction with President Trump’s commitment to the African continent. He emphasized that his administration has played a crucial role in promoting world peace since his return to power. Thus, he succeeded in resolving the conflict between Pakistan and India, stopping the war between Iran and Israel, and signing a peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani pointed out that conflict in the Middle East had lasted for almost eight decades, noting the bloody period in the Gaza Strip over the past two years, which has claimed an unacceptable number of victims.

His Excellency, the President of the Republic, highlighted Mauritania’s significant potential, thanks to its strategic location on the Atlantic coast, its proximity to the United States, and its pivotal role as a bridge between North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.

His Excellency explained that for sixty years, Mauritania has been the second largest producer of iron ore in Africa and that its marine waters are rich in resources, particularly fisheries.

He reiterated Mauritania’s commitment to peace and investment and its aspiration to a solid economic and strategic partnership with the United States.
