President of Republic Meets With US President at White House

On 9 July, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, met with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, at the White House in Washington.

HE President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, during his meeting with his US counterpart Donald Trump on Wednesday at the White House in Washington, in the presence of the Presidents of Senegal, Gabon, Liberia and Guinea-Bissau, expressed his deep appreciation for the invitation extended to him and his colleagues present, praising the US President’s efforts to bring peace to several regions, pointing out the need to work to end the war in the Gaza Strip, before presenting the opportunities and potentials available to Mauritania.

The President of the Republic said:

“Thank you for giving me the floor, Mr. President.

First of all, I want to thank Mr. Trump for inviting us to be here today.

I am President Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. Thank you very much Mr. President for this invitation to me and my colleagues here today.

This is a strong message from you and we receive it very positively, this message shows the interest that you have in our countries as well as in the African continent as a whole. This is the result of your generosity, and we receive and accept this message from you.

Before talking about my country, I want to express our satisfaction to see President Trump’s commitment to our continent.

Mr. President.

During this short period after your brief return to power in recent months, you have come to the rescue of peace, and you did so in Asia between Pakistan and India as soon as a war broke out, which, if it had continued, would have had catastrophic consequences.

Since the beginning, you have been working tirelessly on the war in Europe, the Ukrainian-Russian conflict, and you did not delay in settling a long-standing conflict on the African continent despite the attempts of many international leaders, but thanks to your determination you were able to sign the agreement between the two parties, and now this conflict is a thing of the past.

You are also working with interest and vigor with regard to the Middle East, a conflict that has been going on for several decades, almost 80 years, 70 years, but also a war that has been raging for a year and a half and has cost, as you kindly said, a large number of victims.

Of course, you managed to stop the war between Iran and Israel, which could have had serious and catastrophic repercussions in this sensitive region.

You have made tremendous efforts for peace, and we are interested in supporting peace in the same direction.

As you, Mr. President, have kindly noted, when peace is absent, development is absent, stability is absent, anxiety is absent, and of course this affects daily life, and you have understood this very well.

Thank you very much.

I am the President of the Republic of Mauritania. Mauritania is a small country by most standards. If we talk about population, it is a small country with about 5 million people, it is a small country in terms of its influence in the world, of course not compared to the United States of America, and we don’t have any contract until we recognize that.

It is also a small country in terms of welfare indicators, we still have many issues for the welfare of our people, but we are also a great country in other considerations. Mauritania is a great country with its strategic location on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean, the link between North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, this is a strategic location.

We have huge resources and many opportunities for investment, we have mines of precious and rare metals, we have manganese and uranium and we also have good indicators regarding cobalt, lithium and nickel.

We are the second producer for 60 years of iron, we also produce copper and we have great fishery resources in our waters.”

Mr. Nani Ould Chrougha, the Minister in charge of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic, and some close collaborators of the US President attended the meeting.
