Prime Minister chairs Meeting of Ministerial Committee in Charge of Youth Protection Program

Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Diay on Wednesday chaired the meeting of the ministerial committee in charge of following up on the implementation of the National Youth Protection Program, in accordance with the priorities of the program of President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani, aimed at fortifying and protecting youth from the ill effects of the dangers that threaten our society.
The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Employment, Sports and Civil Service gave a presentation that included the level of implementation of the plan that was approved during the committee’s meeting last February.
The program consists of four components:
– Protecting National Unity and Combating All Types of Discrimination.
– Combating narcotics and psychotropic substances
– Protecting against the dangers of the digital space and the misuse of the Internet.
– Promoting a culture of perseverance and recognizing efforts and work.
After presenting and discussing the level of implementation of each of these components on the ground, the committee praised the good start of the program in terms of volunteer work, the development of scouting organizations, the establishment of a committee to monitor digital content on platforms, the fight against cybercrime and the banning of gambling sites, as well as the establishment of a national platform to report immoral content or harm national unity; and the level of preparation for the establishment of a special medical unit to care for victims of drug addiction and treat its effects.
At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the concerned sectors to coordinate more closely and think of solutions to strengthen existing mechanisms and provide the necessary resources to address all aspects of the issues at hand, and to raise the level of sensitization at all levels to raise the awareness of citizens to ensure their effective contribution in protecting our youth from the dangers of these phenomena.
