The creation of a parliamentary group for the support of the Mauritanian business women was announced, on Monday, in the National Assembly.
Supervising the event, the 1st vice president of the National Assembly, Mr Hamadi Ould Meimou, pointed out that the creation of this group reflects the interest that the deputies accord to the promotion and empowerment of women.
« The women situation in Mauritania is still below expectations, despite important social and economic gains made in recent decades. Such developments have enabled women to increase their presence in educational structures, at different levels, and to broaden their participation in decision making, elective functions, and business circles ».
For her part, the Minister of Social Affairs, Childhood and Family, Ms. Naha Mint Haroun Ould Cheikh Sidiya, indicated that women empowerment constitutes the key of her efficient participation in decision making.
