Riyadh

Our country participated in the International Conference on Archives in the Digital Age, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from February 16 to 18, at the initiative of the National Center for Documents and Archives in the Kingdom.

The conference will discuss the reality of Arab archives in light of the acceleration of digital transformation, and the measures that should be taken to benefit from technological development in preserving memory and heritage.

In his intervention during the conference, the General Delegate of National Documents, Mr. Mohamed El Mokhtar Mohamed El Hadi, reviewed the efforts made by the public authorities in Mauritania under the guidance of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to preserve this national wealth.

He added that among the measures taken in this context is the start of the implementation of a project to build an archive headquarters with international standards, equip it with the latest means of digitization, build sterilization, restoration and scanning laboratories, and take care of human cadres through continuous training in various archiving disciplines, in addition to improving the legal framework and administrative structure.

We note that our country is a member of the Arab branch of the International Council on Archives and the Memory of the World Committee at the level of the Arab region, and has cooperation agreements in the field of archives with Tunisia, Algeria, the Sultanate of Oman, Turkey and Portugal.
