Islamic Military Coalition in Sahel organizes Workshop on Terrorism and Factors Leading to Sympathy

A workshop on “Causes of terrorism and factors leading to sympathy for it”, organised in cooperation between the Islamic Counter-Terrorism Coalition in the Sahel (CICTAH) and the ministries of defence and pensioners’ affairs, children of martyrs, Islamic affairs and indigenous education, began Monday morning in Nouakchott.
This meeting, in which 30 participants will participate over three days, aims to deepen understanding of the phenomenon of terrorism and its causes, exchange experiences and knowledge on the subject of the workshop, develop a vision for the most effective solutions to eradicate this phenomenon from the African Sahel region, and foresee the future.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Defence, Retirees and Children’s Affairs, the commander of the National Command and Staff College, Colonel Sidi Mohamed Ould Hammadi, said the meeting is part of the Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition programme in the Sahel to be implemented in Mauritania.
He added that the phenomenon of terrorism and sympathy for it still poses a major security challenge to all countries of the world, because of the threat it causes to national security, and from this point of view, gaining and updating experiences in the field of knowing the causes of this phenomenon and the factors leading to sympathy for it is crucial.
In turn, the scientific supervisor of the intellectual management of the alliance, Mr. Yahya bin Muhammad Abu Mughaid, expressed his happiness to participate in organizing this meeting, pointing out that the alliance seeks through it to find out the causes and solutions and exchange experiences and knowledge between member states, research centers and specialized universities on the causes of the phenomenon and the most effective solutions to eliminate it permanently.
To achieve these goals, the coalition is working to raise the capabilities of member states and foresee the future in order to reach solutions that put a final end to this difficult problem.
Participants in this meeting, the second of its kind after the training course on the risks of terrorism and money laundering and methods of combating them, will follow a series of presentations on the topic of the workshop presented by Dr. Madi Ibrahim Kanté, lecturer and researcher at the University of Legal and Political Sciences in Bamako, lecturer at the Military College of Mali.
The opening of the workshop was attended by a number of officials from the sectors of defence, pensioners’ affairs, children of martyrs, Islamic affairs and indigenous education, and the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition in the Sahel.
