Prime Minister to Parliament: The Government is Preparing for a Comprehensive National Dialog whose Outcomes will Meet the Aspirations and Hopes of Citizens

The Prime Minister, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Diay, stressed that the title of the phase during this second term of His Excellency the President of the Republic is transparency and frankness with citizens, stressing that the political calm that the country is witnessing between all its political components is what His Excellency the President of the Republic has established since he assumed the presidency.

Responding to questions raised by MPs during a public session of the National Assembly under the chairmanship of Mohamed Bamba Meguett, Speaker of the Assembly, on Sunday evening, dedicated to discussing the government’s work outcome for 2024 and the prospects of its program for 2025, His Excellency said that the government is preparing a comprehensive national dialogue, which will be different with its outcomes that will meet the aspirations and hopes of citizens and will address all the real fundamental issues and problems that have been an obstacle to development in the country.

 

He added that the government is continuing to implement the vision of His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, which was the basis of his program “My Pledges” and the foundation of his program “My Ambition for the Nation,” stressing that the government’s work is focused on implementing the main axes of His Excellency’s vision, which is to build a strong state of law and institutions with modern and rational governance. In addition to creating a high-performing, resilient and environmentally sustainable economy, developing human capital with good training and qualification, especially the youth, providing conditions for strong national unity and integrated social integration, ensuring security and stability for the country and enhancing its presence and role at the regional and international levels.

With regard to slavery, the Prime Minister explained that it is in the process of extinction, and that it is contrary to the teachings of the true Islamic religion, indicating that 180 cases of such cases are before the judiciary, and that 102 cases have been sentenced to imprisonment, indicating that the government does not deny the existence of the remnants of slavery, and that work is underway to correct these errors, by working to provide appropriate conditions for education and a strong presence in appointments. He pointed out that the General Delegation for National Solidarity and the Fight Against Exclusion “Ta’azar” was established primarily to mitigate these effects, and the Republican School also came to erase social disparities between the components of the same society, referring to the decision recently approved by the Council of Ministers regarding scholarships for higher education students, which focuses primarily on the vulnerable classes.

He pointed out that the government is working on a program to determine the criteria on which the appointment is based, and that all programmed subscriptions will take the necessary measures to ensure transparency, indicating that the government’s work for 2025 focuses mainly on redressing this category in one way or another, explaining that the humanitarian legacy file was and still occupies a special place for the President of the Republic, stressing that he is seriously seeking to find a final formula for it with the agreement of all parties.

With regard to political parties, the Prime Minister explained that the existing political parties law and the way it works and its results are not up to the required level, which made it necessary to have a new law free from these issues, and it was discussed, indicating that it is still subject to amendment until it is discussed in a more detailed manner in the Comprehensive Dialogue.

He stressed that the government is working in the long and medium term to accelerate the pace of achievements in all fields, explaining that the phenomenon of corruption is a global dilemma that most countries in the world suffer from, stressing that its treatment requires concerted efforts, although the government is primarily responsible for fighting it, explaining in this regard that deterrent laws have been enacted to detect corruption and corrupt people, and a new mechanism in the field of fighting corruption will be established to curb the phenomenon.

He emphasized that any report issued by the General Inspectorate of State is responded to immediately by applying the procedures in place in that regard to the letter.

He pointed out that transactions have also been reviewed to ensure that the prevailing behaviors are avoided, pointing out that there is an information application that records violations and prevents perpetrators from repeating them, stressing that the government has made great efforts in this area and will continue to work to curb these phenomena.

With regard to boosting the performance of the national economy, the Prime Minister explained that the development of the economy depends on solving other issues that the government has already started to implement, such as reforming and reviewing the operation of the National Electricity Company, noting that the company’s revenues increased by 13%, and the same measures were taken in the National Water Company, which raised its monthly revenues to more than one billion Ouguiyas after it was within 650 million Ouguiyas in the past four months, stressing that revitalizing the economy requires structural reforms in both the water and electricity companies.

The Prime Minister touched on the major reforms that affected the agricultural field, the energy and electricity sector, animal development, hunting, education, health, etc., emphasizing that the President of the Republic focused during this mandate on solving the major issues of the country.

Regarding the ministerial missions that were recently sent to the interior provinces, the Prime Minister explained that they enabled the inhabitants of these regions to raise all the issues that they are suffering from and that require urgent solutions, stressing that the government is working to solve all these issues, noting that the youth is the first target of all the aforementioned projects.

He said that the prices set by the government have remained the same, calling on all citizens to report any speculation or price increases.

At the end of his intervention, the Prime Minister expressed the government’s readiness to listen to the opinions and ideas of MPs to work together for the betterment of our country.

The session took place in the presence of members of the government, as well as those in charge of duties and advisors at the Prime Ministry.
