Gendarmerie Unit Returns from Central Africa

The eighth unit of national gendarmerie returned to Nouakchott, on Monday evening, from the Central African Republic after participating honorably in the UN forces to maintain peace in this brotherly country.
The unity was received, in Nouakchott’ s national airport, Oumtounsi, by the general secretary of the national Defense ministry, General Mohamed Vall Ould Maayif, accompanied by the commandant of the 3rd office at the gendarmerie staff.
This unity composed of 140 elements, including 9 officiers, 28 non commissioned officiers and 103 gendarmes. It is equippied with the necessary equipments , as wel as skills and specialities needed for such international missions.
In a speech on this occasion, the general secretary of the Defense ministry thanked the unit members for their efforts in the Central African Republic. « you have accomplished your mission with seriousness, displine, and rigor».
During its stay in the Central African Republic, the unit worked in multiple domains: application of laws and standards adopted by the UN, the defense of Human Rights, and the protection of minorities and victims of intercommunity conflicts.
