Departure of Mauritanian Gendermarie Detachment to Central Africa

The ninth detachment of Mauritanian gendarmerie left Nouakchott, Sunday evening, to the central african city of Bria, to work as part of the UN force for peacekeeping in this brotherly country.

The detachment is composed of 140 elements:9 officers, 28 non commissioned officers, and 103 gendarmes, including medical and technical teams.
It comprises all required specialities for this type of internal missions. Likewise, it is equipped with the necessary logistical means.
The unity elements have received, for two months, a preparatory training for their future mission : assimilation of laws and standards implemeted by UN, defence of Human Rights, protection of threatened minorities, and assistance to the victims of the inter community conflicts.
They also underwent practical training on hostages liberation, the creation of fixed and mobile checkpoints, the protection of important personalities, marching and mobile patrols and the anti riot technics.
The detachment was greeted on its departure from the International Airoport of Nouakchott Oumtounsy by the general secretary of Defence ministry, General Mohamed Vall Ould Mayif, accompanied by the commander of the third bureau, general Cheikh Diallo.
The general secretary stated that this is the fourth mission of gendermarie to go to the city of Bria to keep peace in the Central African Republic.
General Mayif urged the elements to be good ambassadors of Mauritania and respect the values and norms of the country.
