Foreign Minister Receives Phone Call from UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Mali

On 26 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, received a phone call from the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Mali, Mr. El Ghassim Wane.

Discussions focused on the development of the current situation in Mali, as well as the prospects for joint actions to overcome the crisis. These efforts should make it possible to ensure the security and stability of Mali, in accordance with the constitutional principles and procedures in force in this brotherly country.

During the meeting, the UN diplomat praised the central role that Mauritania plays in the sub-region, particularly at the level of the G-5 Sahel.

Finally, he underlined that Mauritania’s the active role reassures him already of the support of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Cheikh El Ghazouani and of the Mauritanian diplomacy in the face of the many challenges that are looming on the horizon.
