On 7 November, in Nouakchott, the Prime Minister, Mr. Mokhtar Diay, received Mr. Abdoulaye Mahamadou, the Executive Secretary of the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS), who has just attended the High-Level Forum on Pastoralism, under the theme: “Nouakchott+10: A decade of action in favor of pastoral and agro-pastoral communities, achievements and ways forward”.
Discussions during the meeting focused on the various areas of cooperation and partnership between Mauritania and this regional organization and ways of strengthening and developing them.
The results of the 59th ordinary session of the CILSS Council of Ministers, held in Nouakchott from 5 to 7 November, were also discussed.
In a statement made at the end of the audience granted to him by the Prime Minister, Mr. Abdoulaye Mahamadou said he had been eager to report to the Prime Minister on the work of the forum on pastoralism, held ten years after the Nouakchott Declaration on pastoralism in the region.
He added that the participants had appreciated the results achieved and asked for the Prime Minister’s support and assistance in mobilizing the necessary funding for the project. The Prime Minister responded to this request by reaffirming Mauritania’s commitment to supporting the project.
