G-5 Sahel Council of Ministers Meets in Eighth Ordinary Session

Nouakchott, 5 October 2020-The work of the 8th ordinary session of the Council of Ministers of the G-5 Sahel began on 5 October in Nouakchott.
The session is meant to examine the reports of the mission to implement the conclusions of the organizational audit of the Executive Secretariat, as well as the report of the G-5 Sahel joint force commander.
In his speech on this occasion, Mauritanian Minister of Economic Affairs and the Promotion of Productive Sectors Ousmane Mamadou Kane indicated that the session is being held in a particular context marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has severely affected the member countries of the G-5 Sahel in health and economic terms, as well as regional dynamics, both in the areas of security and development.
He commended the urgent measures taken by member states to curb the spread of the pandemic and limit its consequences.
For his part, G-5 Sahel Executive Secretary Maman Sambo Sidikou said that the organization is gaining notoriety by putting forward as proof the strengthening and diversification of the G-5 Sahel partnership, which is reflected not only by the institutional support provided by the various partners to the secretariat, but also by the positive reception of various requests addressed by the organization in favor of its projects and major initiatives.
He stressed that the executive secretariat would continue that dynamic by maintaining advocacy and ensuring a rigorous follow-up of the commitments made by the partners.
