The President of the Republic and the Chairperson of the AU participates in a Working Lunch Organized by the “Paris Pact Alliance for Peoples and the Planet”

His Excellency the President of the Republic, Chairman of the African Union, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, participated on the sidelines of the 79th ordinary session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and at the invitation of his French counterpart, His Excellency President Emmanuel Macron, in a working lunch organized by the “Paris Pact Alliance for Peoples and the Planet”.
This meeting was dedicated to discussing the main priorities of the Charter over the coming year, how best to enhance the impact and synergies between complementary initiatives, and how to guide political leadership to meet key objectives, including delivering solutions that match the ambitions and expectations of citizens around the world.
In a speech on the occasion, His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, thanked his French counterpart for extending the invitation, stressing the importance of the objectives of this international alliance for the service of development for African countries.
His Excellency explained that the international community must leave Africa with the choice of either remaining underdeveloped or working to preserve the environment, because what the continent needs is an approach that harmonizes the need to promote development and the need to preserve the environment together and side by side, which requires the international community to help Africa by fulfilling its financing obligations and seeking to establish appropriate financial and environmental governance.
In his speech, His Excellency the President of the Republic also appreciated the efforts made by this international coalition so far in this direction, noting that our country will study the possibility of joining it and seriously contributing to working to achieve its goals.
The Paris Pact for Peoples and the Planet is a new alliance that aims to renew the structure of international finance so that it becomes fairer and more responsive to the real needs of developing countries, bringing together 60 countries from all continents, and has chosen the days of the current regular session of the United Nations General Assembly as an opportunity to reaffirm commitments, coordination and urge the implementation of common priorities.
In addition to the President of the Republic, the meeting was attended by the Minister in charge of the Office of the President of the Republic, Mr. Nani Ould Shrougha, and the Permanent Representative of our country to the United Nations, His Excellency Mr. Sidi Ould Mohamed Laghdaf.
