The Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Mr. Abdoul Mamadou Barry, signed, on Wednesday, in Nouakchott, a partnership agreement with Somagaz within the framework of the implementation of the ‘My priorities – extended’ program of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, particularly in its fifth axis relating to the preservation of the environment and the creation of employment opportunities in rural areas.
The agreement aims to provide twenty thousand (20,000) cylinders of butane gas to the most vulnerable populations in areas where forest resources are overexploited.
The agreement also aims to promote alternative energies to the use of forest fuels, to reduce the degradation of pastoral agricultural resources of forests.
In a speech on the occasion, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development indicated that this agreement is part of the implementation of the fifth axis of the “My priorities – enlarged” program of the President of Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, to preserve degraded vegetation due to the excessive exploitation of our natural resources.
The Director General of the Mauritanian Gas Company (Somagaz), for his part, insisted on the importance of the preservation of vegetation for its central role in the development process and the creation of a natural balance, adding that this partnership embodies the ideal cooperation between public bodies.
The ceremony was attended by the legal advisor to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Mr. Ahmed Ould Zein, and the advisor in charge of communication, Ms. Toutou Mint Bouka.
