On 21 May, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, received the credentials of HE Ms. Laura Botta, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
At the end of the presentation of the credentials, the President of the Republic granted the Italian diplomat an audience in the presence of Mr. Mokhtar Diay, the Minister in Charge of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic.
Shortly after the meeting, the Italian diplomat told the Mauritanian news agency, that she was satisfied with the welcome given to her by Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic and Chairman of the African Union, to whom she had the honor of presenting her credentials.
The ambassador took the opportunity to present all the wishes and expressions of friendship from Mr. Sergio Mattarella, the President of the Italian Republic, Ms. Giorgia Meloni, the President of the Council of Ministers, and, of course, his Minister of Affairs Foreigners.
She added the President noted that relations between Mauritania and Italy are now excellent and that the two countries are working together for peace, security, and stability in all international forums, including the G7.
We know that Mauritania, she continues, currently chairs the African Union and is a country very committed to maintaining peace, to the protection, development, and well-being of populations, but also above all Environmental protection. Indeed, the lack of water and drought, which hit the region are certainly the cause of the problems at the origin of the instability.
The Italian diplomat said she assured the President of her country’s full cooperation and friendship not only toward Mauritania but also for the African continent, given the responsibilities it assumes this year and also in the future.
