Minister of Economy Reviews the Future of Energy Saving in our Country

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, revealed during an intervention in his capacity as a keynote speaker at the symposium organized by the World Bank during the Spring Meetings 2024 on “Saving Energy for Africa: What Will It Take to Accelerate Access to Services and Improve Lives?” , the obstacles and opportunities that our country has in this area.
Mauritania currently suffers from low competitiveness, as the cost of electricity is 7 times what the Chinese pay, however, our country has a promising future after the government launched a package of measures to develop this basic sector in development, such as investment in renewable energy, as Mauritania has large resources of solar and wind energy and estimated capabilities in the field of green hydrogen production, and the government has carried out institutional reforms, where production has been separated. and distribution in order to improve access to this service
The minister addressed the need for economic integration between Mauritania, which has great energy capabilities and those in short supply, and raised a question about the issue of holding on to these resources within the continent or exporting them abroad.
The seminar was attended by the President of the World Bank and the President of the African Development Bank.
